I just took a walk with a neighbor and her puppy. The puppy loved running in the snow, discovering things. She greets every stranger as a friend. My two cats, Esther and Molly, aren't into beng out in the cold, but are enjoying their cat naps.
Our pets teach us an important lesson- how to live in the moment. Unlike us, they don't dwell on the past or fret about the future. They have an innate sense that all we have is this moment. And, even if this moment is a cold day in winter, it is ours to enjoy. Really, each breath is a gift.
Imagine, for a moment, what it would be like to release the misguided belief that agonizing over what has already happened will somehow change it. And to accept that we have much more limited control over events, especially future events, that we'd like to think.
Sometime today, stop for a moment and enjoy it. Breathe it in. Breathe out your worries. Namaste.
